A Map of the Missions, Presidios, Pueblos, and Some of the More Interesting Ranchos of Spanish California

The breadth of California’s 5rich Spanish history is celebrated on this large folding map, issued by the Automobile Club of Southern California to promote motor tourism across the state. Colorful routes reflecting the paths of various early explorers are identified along with the locations of missions, presidios, pueblos, and ranchos established under the authority of the crown of Spain. Inset maps show details around the urban centers of San Francisco and Los Angeles, while accompanying text describes the nearly 300 locations numbered within the image. The work was a collaborative effort involving several talented individuals. Historic research and descriptive notes by W.W. Robinson and William H. Newbro, Jr. Editing by Phil Townsend, cartography by Lowell Butler, drawings by Ken Sawyer, and color by Harry Diamond.
