During World War II, the Orlando and Winter Park area underwent a radical transformation. What was once a quiet citrus-growing region became a “garrison town”, an important transport hub, and a regional center for military strategy and chemical research. This civic-oriented street map reflects the urban growth fueled by the wartime military population and returning G.I.s. City limits are noted with dotted lines, though surrounding suburban areas are well-developed. Schools, hospitals, and parks are identified according to the accompanying legend, while the negative space includes a comprehensive regional street index. A photographic view of ‘Orlando From the Air’ and a map of Orange County, Florida can be found on the verso. The map was designed, copyrighted, and published by A. Clague. The primary image notes a date of 1944, while the county map is dated 1947. Printed by the Rollins Press of Winter Park, Florida and distributed by the Harold Shepard Realty Company.
